Clarence married Alma


1.  He overcame German American Adversity.  For example . . .

2.  Dan’s tailor shop was burnt to the ground during WW2

3. Dan and Cornleia's plans were squashed, when he married Alma Robertson.   Alma became a great short story writer, became known for potato meals, moved from Kansas City to Chula Vista-Barstow-Tulare, CA and raised 3 children:  Elizabeth, Marcia and Robert

4.  Clarence joined the Navy to support his family during the depression.  He was part of the D-Day Omaha beach assault and was on board either the Texas, Arkansas or the Nevada battleship as a Chief Petty Officer cook.

5.  Also, aboard ship he fought, played poker and pool to make extra money. His nickname was “red” due to his bright red hair and stood 6′2″


6.  As a husband and family man, they both owned and managed a cigar store and he became an officer in the Masons club.  He attended the Episcopal Church every Sunday and was a Deacon.
